A record day for maize purchases – 94 lorries and 2,500 tonnes in a single day
Record maize purchases at IMA Polska – 94 deliveries in a single day
Tuesday 20 October turned out to be a record day for this year’s maize purchasing in IMA Poland. On that day, the plant received 94 consignments of wet maize, totalling nearly 2,500 tonnes of raw material. This is the best result of the current purchasing season, whilst at the same time marking just the start of the busiest period for deliveries.
The purchase of maize is a key part of IMA Polska’s operations. The raw material is delivered to the plant and used in the production process bioethanol production. The purchasing season takes place in autumn, when farmers harvest their crops and deliver the wet maize directly to the plant. Each consignment requires efficient logistical handling – from weighing and quality control to unloading and storage.
Efficient organisation and team commitment
Handling 94 deliveries in a single day is a major logistical challenge. The team responsible for receiving raw materials worked at full capacity throughout the day. The staff responsible for coordinating the receipt of goods played a key role, ensuring the smooth handling of every delivery despite the record volume of deliveries.
Efficient organisation of the work made it possible to avoid downtime and long queues. Each of the 94 vehicles was processed in accordance with procedures, and the raw material was sent for further processing without delay. This is the result of well-planned processes and the experience of the team, which refines its procurement procedures year on year.
Maize procurement – target of 100 lorries a day
The record of 94 shipments is the starting point for the next target. IMA Polska plans to reach a level of 100 maize shipments accepted per day. Achieving this target requires further optimisation of logistics processes and maintaining a high level of coordination within the team.
Increasing the daily maize procurement capacity has a direct impact on continuity production at the plant. The more efficiently raw materials are received, the more stable the entire production chain operates – from the delivery of wet maize to the final product in the form of bioethanol and by-products.
Why is the purchase of maize so important for bioethanol production?
Maize is the primary raw material in the production of bioethanol through fermentation. Wet maize delivered directly from the fields is processed at the IMA Polska plant, where it undergoes successive stages of processing. The quality and quantity of raw material received during the procurement season determine the plant’s production capacity for the coming months.
The purchasing season lasts several weeks and requires the maximum mobilisation of resources. During this time, the plant must accept as much raw material as possible, whilst ensuring appropriate storage conditions. That is why every record-breaking day, such as that of 20 October, brings the plant closer to meeting its annual production targets.
Working with maize suppliers
The efficient procurement of maize is also the result of good cooperation with farmers and haulage companies. IMA Polska builds long-term relationships with raw material suppliers, offering competitive procurement terms and a professional service. The short turnaround time for transport operations on site is one of the factors that encourages suppliers to work with us.
