IMA Poland at the KIB Academy training on decarbonisation of transport in Gdansk
On 5-6 February 2025, the 'Decarbonisation of Transport - New Challenges and Recent Legislative Changes’ training course, organised by the KIB Academy, took place in Gdansk. Representatives of IMA Poland actively participated in this event, which brought together practitioners from the fuel and biocomponent industries. The training provided a platform for the exchange of knowledge on current EU regulations and upcoming changes to Polish legislation on sustainable transport fuels.
IMA Poland representatives at training event on decarbonisation of transport
IMA Polska was represented by the key specialists responsible for the company's strategic development directions. Krzysztof Ima, Managing Director and Chief Technologist, brought to the discussion many years of experience in production technology bioethanol and other biocomponents. Waldemar Młotkowski, Investment and Production Coordinator, provided an operational perspective related to the implementation of new regulatory requirements in industrial practice.
The presence of IMA Polska representatives at such industry events confirms the company's commitment to following and actively participating in the processes of shaping decarbonisation policy in Poland. As one of the leading producers of fuel biocomponents, the company has a direct interest in understanding the direction of legislative changes affecting the sector.
KIB Academy training programme - thematic scope
The training organised by the KIB Academy was characterised by a practical and substantive approach to the issues discussed. Participants had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with a detailed discussion of recent European Union regulatory changes relating to sustainable transport fuels. The programme also included an overview of expected updates to Polish legislation related to the fuel, automotive and biocomponent manufacturing industries.
The RED III Directive was one of the main points of reference during the training. The new EU requirements impose an obligation on Member States to increase the share of renewable energy in transport. For producers of bio-components, such as IMA Poland, this means both the challenges of adapting production processes and the market opportunities arising from the growing demand for sustainable fuels.
Significance of legislative changes for the biofuel industry
Dynamic changes in EU and national legislation require fuel companies to constantly monitor and adapt. The KIB Academy training highlighted that simply keeping up to date with regulations is not enough. Proper interpretation of the regulations and their effective implementation in daily business practice is key.
For manufacturers fuel biocomponents Legislative changes mean that certification processes, raw material traceability systems and sustainability documentation need to be adapted. As a company with many years of experience in the industry, IMA Polska is actively preparing to meet the new regulatory requirements.
Decarbonisation of transport - prospects for Poland
The transport sector is responsible for a significant proportion of greenhouse gas emissions in Poland and the European Union as a whole. Decarbonisation of this sector is one of the priorities of EU climate policy. Biofuels and bio-components, including the bioethanol produced by IMA Polska, play an important role in the process of reducing emissions from road transport.
Polish legislation needs to be adapted to the requirements of the RED III Directive and other EU legal acts concerning sustainable fuels. The expected changes in national legislation will have a direct impact on concession obligations, requirements for the National Indicative Target and support schemes for biocomponent producers.
The role of bioethanol in decarbonising transport
Bioethanol represents one of the most technologically mature and economically viable bio-components used in transport fuels. Its production from agricultural raw materials allows CO2 emissions to be reduced over the fuel's life cycle compared to fossil fuels. IMA Poland specialises in the production of high-quality bioethanol that meets the highest quality and environmental standards.
The increase in renewable energy requirements for transport is translating into a growing demand for bioethanol and other bio-components. Producers such as IMA Polska need to be prepared to increase production capacity and meet stricter sustainability criteria.
Industry cooperation and knowledge sharing
The training events organised by the KIB Academy provide a platform for the exchange of experience between representatives of different segments of the transport fuel value chain. Participating in such events allows you to establish business contacts, learn about the perspectives of other market participants and better understand the complexity of regulatory processes.
IMA Polska regularly participates in industry events, conferences and training courses on the biofuel sector. The company is also involved in the work of industry organisations representing the interests of biocomponent producers to regulators and decision-makers.
Summary and outlook
The KIB Academy training in Gdansk confirmed that the decarbonisation of transport remains one of the key challenges for the Polish economy in the coming years. Legislative changes at EU and national level will shape the operating conditions for all transport fuel market participants.
As an active participant in these processes, IMA Poland is prepared for the changes ahead. The company continues to invest in the development of competences and services related to the production of sustainable fuel biocomponents.
We invite you to contact to discuss the possibility of cooperation in the supply of bioethanol and other fuel biocomponents.
